It is very common in Indian homes that people stay inside the house without shoes and slippers. People keep their shoes and slippers outside the house or in the shoe rack near the door and walk inside the house without wearing anything on their feet. But you will be surprised to know that there is a village in South India where people never wear shoes and slippers, even when they go out of their houses in the village (Indian village that banned shoes), they do not wear slippers. It seems as if shoes and slippers are banned. There is a very interesting reason behind this.
According to a report published in the BBC website in 2019, the name of this small village is Andaman (Andaman village no shoes) which is about 450 kilometers away from Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu. According to this report by feature correspondent Kamala Thaigarajan, about 130 families used to live in the village at that time. Most of the people used to do farming or work as laborers in the fields.

People do not wear slippers even on the village roads
According to the report, only the elderly or sick people in this village walk wearing slippers, no one else wears shoes inside the village. However, in the summer season, some people wear slippers to protect themselves from the hot ground. Children also go to school without wearing shoes. At the same time, some people are seen carrying shoes and slippers in their hands, as if it is their purse or a bag. Now you must be wondering what is the reason behind this.
Because of this, I do not wear shoes and slippers
The villagers believe that their village is protected by a goddess named Muthyalamma. In her honour, people do not wear shoes. Just as people do not enter a temple wearing shoes, they consider this village as a temple and walk here without wearing anything on their feet. This practice has been going on for years, no one has forced them to do so. They are just following their beliefs. When a guest from outside comes to the village, the villagers tell him about this practice. If they agree to follow it, it is good, if they do not follow it, then they are not forced to do so. However, many years ago, people believed that if they did not follow this rule, a mysterious fever would spread in the village, which would kill all of them. In March-April, the villagers worship the goddess and a festival is organized for 3 days.
